Curie December 2019

December seems like a long time ago and we should say that it is in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic as we write this in May. So back in December we had worked out that we would see Erin’s family for Christmas in New Jersey having just seen Albert’s family in Atlanta for Thanksgiving. The idea was to find a place that was equidistant and an easy drive for everyone, including Julie and Steve. In fact we had planned to rent a large car or van to make it easier to drive. Curie November 2019

IT is fascinating to write blogs in such retrospect; it is January 24 and we are just writing the November blog; to be fair we have been sick and work has been stressful. To write blogs so far past we rely on any notes, if any that we took on Erin’s Google Docs, and Google Photos for the daily description. We we miss though are all the funny things that the girls say each day, the real reason for these blogs, to capture those things because you will forget even by the next day.

Curie continues to develop and grow, she has lost her front teeth and will need orthodontic work, but she is a trooper and her smile is relentless regardless of having her front teeth or not. Sometimes she smiles with her mouth closed, self-conscious, but invariably life lets her laugh and smile all the same. Of course all kids go through this, but when it is your child it is an important reminder that we must let the joy rise. Continue reading “Curie November 2019”

Curie October 2019

We were at the Mosaic district with Isabella’s family when Erin was away and we discovered that Curie likes fried rice. Up until then, she has only liked steamed rice, so the changes in her palate as she grows has meant that she has an expanded repertoire of food that she likes. Interestingly at the same time Elia has expressed a like for the trout at Cracker Barrel, then when Curie wanted a hamburger patty instead, Curie found out that she prefers trout also, leaving us without food for our lunches. The next time we went we ordered them trout and discovered that we love the haddock too. When Curie tried it, she said she liked the haddock over the trout.

Curie September 2019

September means Curie’s birthday and we had her party at Scramble. Elia got her little cake again and sat next to Curie to blow out the candles. For her birthday Curie wanted the Clock Tower from Hogwarts (more than the main hall) because it was a big set and Curie is very proud of being able to build entire sets on her own, though this time she did want us to help if just to keep her company. Note, we did not finish the clock tower until October. The party was great, and as with each party since starting school we also invited new friends from school that Curie just met. It made for a bit of disjointed playing as there were friends from Bright Horizons, friends from school, and new friends as well. Continue reading “Curie September 2019”

Curie August 2019

August is about Japan and back to school. We have written about Japan in our Vacation, Urban Hiking, Food Crawl section, and in Elia’s blog, but as we said in Elia’s blog we will try to write from each girl’s perspective as well. Curie looks like a kid now, with her missing teeth and gangly limbs, but she is still so much our little girl wanting to help and take care of everyone. She grew an inch this summer, making her taller but still shorter than most of her friends. She rediscovered cheese and eats a lot of pizza, so hopefully she is getting some calcium.

Curie July 2019

So July for Curie is all about pony camp at Congressional, this year Erin got her in four times, so she had the chance to really get to ride. We even bought her and Elia cowboy boots so that she could ride with her own boots. Elia got to ride when she was in Great Adventures, so luckily she didn’t feel that she was left out or anything. Curie learned to take care of the horses, trot, and even jump. When it came time for the Camp Luau, every person at pony camp knew Curie and made it a point to interact with her.

Curie June 2019

June means the end of school and the beginning of camp, and the end of second grade for Curie also means the end of preschool for Elia. The girls went back to the dentist and while Elia was okay Curie had more work to do including losing another tooth. When the day came, and she had her tooth extracted the same day Elia graduated from preschool, they ended up extracting two teeth. It was terrible, and while Curie bounced back the next day, she was miserable even as she was helping celebrate Elia’s graduation. Curie (and Albert) have a fear of the dentist and so the night before Curie went to the dentist, Albert spent some time teaching her box breathing to control her anxiety before going to the dentist. Afterward she told Albert (because Erin takes them to the dentist), that she did the breathing, and hopefully having something to concentrate on helped her that day. Curie May 2019

For her second date, Curie chose to take a walk with Albert instead of going somewhere fancy or eating anywhere. They went to the Little Target and Safeway where he and Elia go just to see where they do go. She was excited to get Elia and see Albert’s work and then go to the little store to see what Elia’s day is like. She LOVED Albert picking her up early two Fridays in a row and getting Elia. Elia loved having Curie come get her giving her a huge hug when Curie arrived.

While Erin was away on a trip, Alice was scheduled to come visit. Albert and the kids needed to get the house ready for her. The girls did not complain about cleaning the house for Alice and they went so far as to go get her a present. Continue reading “Curie May 2019”

Curie April 2019

We forget how little our kids are because they are growing at their own pace and Curie is the older sister and Elia is the younger one. They will always be smaller, more petite, as Dr. Dierks likes to say. But they are growing fantastically, Curie is very creative and loves to draw, make things with Plasticine, and create. She drew a picture for her preschool friends, Natalie and Chloe, which we made copies of for them, and ever since we saw the James May Plasticine episode, Curie likes to make flowers, and soup and fire, and all sorts of things in Plasticine. She told Albert that her favorite things in school were math, art, and music. Not too bad. Continue reading “Curie April 2019”

Curie March 2019

It is a remarkable time where the world seems like there is a Bizzaro universe and we are in that one and not the normal one. The only stabilizing thing is family, it is hard to imagine trying to get through the days without it. We have never been so far behind in writing so we will attempt to recount the month’s happenings and try to remember the cute things said and done, but as we move further and further away, it is hard without taking notes. This particular blog was written once already, yet the save draft feature in WordPress has unfortunately not been working and we lost a draft twice already, though the second was just an outline.

Curie and Elia will always be petite, but it is nice to see that Curie has been growing and wears 6/6x now and no longer 5Ts. She has grown two inches in the past three months. Her reading continues to improve but her writing still needs quite a bit of work, she forgets vowels as she sounds out words, and will write using the whole space rather than regular sized letters. At EMA, she will need to break a board for her next test and with so little mass, Albert bought a few boards to practice. In March, Curie broke her first board and we re-enacted it to get the video and pictures. Continue reading “Curie March 2019”
