Walking in Someone Else’s Shoes

January 28, 2021

Some people fight with hands and fists
Hitting with elbows and grappling wrists
But today, we are talking about the feet.

Others fight with words and anger
With insults and spite and such hate-cancer
And each day getting crushed feels like it is on repeat.

To just get through, put one in front of the other
But sometimes you sigh, and just say “Oh brother”
And life feels like a never ending track meet.

And the road can become so unrelenting
With not a time for heartfelt venting
And perhaps it is time to talk about retreat

So then your heart and ego take a bruising
And when you finally feel like losing
But the thought of giving up takes a back seat…

And so, you fight back with vim and vigor
Find in your soul, courage to be bigger
Because you live with hope and heart and not de-feat.
