Ah, Little Ones

February 22, 2021

They used to lay upon my belly
With hair unkempt and kind of smelly
And though they could be kind of hyper
At least we didn’t have to change their diaper

After soda, the little one would belch
And they’d wipe their hands upon themselves
When eating ramen, they’d remember to slurp
And too much milk might mean a fanny burp.

Candy, popcorn and fancy chocolate
We were just lucky they didn’t vomit
And when they’d eat red velvet cake
At the toilet, we’d do a double take

And after they’d held their stuffies hostage
After they’d be manic and quite exhausted
They’d rest their heads upon my chest
And quite frankly that was always the best.
