What is a muffin, what is a muffin?
Is it cupcake’s naked cousin?
Don’t be such a hater,
The muffin’s clothes are the paper!
A cupcake is a muffin with an icing toupee.
A muffin doesn’t need a frosted wig,
It doesn’t need to be an over-decorated prig,
And it takes a bit of bravery,
To change it up and be savory,
Not a one trick pony of just being sweet.
What is a muffin, what is a muffin?
Is it a cupcake’s naked cousin?
Maybe they’re just neighbors,
In the window of your local baker,
Competing to be the better crumb.
Then what is a cupcake for goodness sake?
Is it the vacuous model, a pin-up, or just cheesecake?
It may not have nuts or blueberries,
But it can be topped with a cherry!
For a muffin is never served for sophistication.

Cream your butter and your sugar
To make a cupcake’s smoother batter…
A muffin gets beaten roughly
Making it denser, somehow lumpy…
“Cupcake” is a an endearment
“Muffin-top” (bad), we’re in agreement…
You can’t eat a cupcake for lunch,
But a muffin is good for brunch!
One is a small cake,
The other a bread, for goodness sake!
Does it really, really, matter which one is better?!

Just do yourself a favor
Simply peel away the paper
And just take a bite of either one,
Just take a bite of either one!
