Pinkeye: What Am I Fighting?

November 9, 2023

I speak the truth, right here; “Hey brother, feel my pain.”
Tired of injustice? This world will always be insane.
They can tell you to beware,
That this world is never fair,
But we come together so we can be “off the chain!”

I always drift to it because of a nostalgia of feeling wanted,
To lift it as a muse on a pedestal lofty and vaunted,
I use rage to try to fill my holes,
Feeling useless and never whole,
Filled with regret and I didn’t want to live a life so haunted.

So let us try to discuss this…
This fighting for our JUST-ice…
Our understanding of what trust is…
Is our having to entrust this:
Are we so willing to fight right where we stand?

But we don’t fight to be righte-ous,
We don’t even know what “just” is,
We must let ourselves trust this:
That they might be a lot like us,
Then will you be willing to fight your fellow man?

I rage to feel righteous so that I have something to believe in.
I rage because I feel hollow beneath my choices and decisions.
I choose devotion over pixie dust,
I choose commitment over desire and lust,
I decided to change so that one day I might be forgiven.

I shriek, “The truth is “tight” here, let’s not do anything in vain.”
Fighting for the “just”-is, fighting against prejudice and disdain.
But before you let yourself care,
Before you let yourself go there,
Take a moment and decide what it is that you hope to gain.
