We say goodbye to Auntie Steve and Uncle Julie (Elia was asleep) in true Chen fashion a la Curie (she tried to photo bomb the first picture at their feet).
We have been reading a lot more to the kids recently (studies show that reading to kids is one of the best indicators of success in school later on), and Elia has been having us read more and more difficult books, not because she wants to hear the story necessarily, but because they are books the Curie has had us read to her. Most recently she has had us read the chess book that we got to start teaching the kids chess. She has enjoyed playing checkers her own way at Cracker Barrel stacking checkers and taking from each other, but recently Albert bought a nice checker set and began teaching Elia to play. We’ve been doing a few progression collages as of late, so why not Great Country Farms. We missed 2014, but here we are with the cow.
It is no doubt strange that Albert bought our cars, at least those we have had since we have had kids, in miniature. They made a yellow 2002 Beetle, and a yellow 2016 Fit, but did not make a purple 2010 Fit, so he bought a blue one and painted it.
When Elia saw the cars she said, “this is our old car, this is our new yellow car, this is our purple car. When the purple car is old, we can get a new one.” But what if they don’t make a purple car then? Oh she also said she wants a new old yellow car too.

It is difficult writing when behind as it is too easy to write about the now rather than the then. The biggest thing in August was that Curie began first grade! Not only did it feel like it came so fast, it was in fact faster because Fairfax county began school a week earlier than it had in the past starting the week before Labor Day. So it was that we only went to the pool once during the summer and that our vacation at the end of the time came close to ending right before the start of school. Continue reading “Curie August 2017”
In May of 2016, we went to Flight in Superman/Supergirl shirts and went to IKEA. Flash-forward to yesterday, September 16, 2017, and we were back at Flight for Curie and Elia’s party and IKEA again (for crawfish) with one major difference.
