Elia’s Birthday Party at BusyBees 2017
Elia November 2017
Halloween for Elia began with wanting to be a chef Belle for her costume long before Halloween, she has either long term memories or great memories of pictures of us in catering clothing with her as a chef, that she associates Halloween with being a chef. However, when she saw Curie’s Wonder Woman costume, and Erin’s fascination for Wonder Woman after the movie, she also wanted to be Wonder Woman; and because the costume we got Curie was too small, we had two Wonder Women. Elia wore her costume for the school parade and had a great time playing with her sword and shield, and posing in her costume at home. On Halloween though, she wanted to be Belle, and so she was Belle for Halloween. Continue reading “Elia November 2017”
Elia October 2017
The longest stretch that Elia wanted to wear her Belle dress was something like 45 days with a few gaps in the middle when it was not practical like birthday party at a jump place or trampoline place (BTW the only other outfit that she would choose to wear was her Batman one – teachers say for Elia every day is dress up day); we talked about whether we had to do something about it but decided that it was a phase and she would decide at some point to change her mind. Much like Curie with Natalie and Chloe driving her flamingo dress to be Elsa, Continue reading “Elia October 2017”
The Flower at the End of the Bed
We normally blog in third person so that it there is a consistency in the writing, but here is one that I wrote in first person that I really wanted the kids to read some day. I want them to know that though we often wish it weren’t, parenting is often survival and getting through the day. Today, thankfully, was not one of those days.
I’ve been very tired and tonight, I was lying in bed in the guest room with Elia who was waving around an artificial flower from IKEA, I was just about to ask her to stop, because it might be dangerous, when Continue reading “The Flower at the End of the Bed”
Elia Doing Parkour/Freerunning
We’ve posted Curie’s martial arts recently, and Elia really wants to join Tiger Tots, but for now, here is Elia doing parkour/freerunning.
Elia September 2017
We have been reading a lot more to the kids recently (studies show that reading to kids is one of the best indicators of success in school later on), and Elia has been having us read more and more difficult books, not because she wants to hear the story necessarily, but because they are books the Curie has had us read to her. Most recently she has had us read the chess book that we got to start teaching the kids chess. She has enjoyed playing checkers her own way at Cracker Barrel stacking checkers and taking from each other, but recently Albert bought a nice checker set and began teaching Elia to play. She still is guided to where to move her pieces, but she loves to win. Continue reading “Elia September 2017”
Curie’s First Day of First Grade
Curie’s first day of first grade and her first day of kindergarten picture. You don’t think they change, but just look at how much taller she is with the heads the same size.
Last year when Curie went to kindergarten Elia was beside herself. This year she wanted her own sign. Here are also two more pictures of Curie last year and this year.
Elia August 2017
Elia loves to be silly and we can’t remember if this is just being a three year old, or if this is just indicative of Elia being Elia. The fact is that she cracks us up, and more importantly and even more funny is that she cracks herself up. And while it is often the funny faces she is making or the way she is acting, more often than not, it is the funny things she says. The other day Albert was talking about peeing and Elia said “Daddy! That is potty talk!” She has a fantastic imagination telling us she shoots fireworks from her hands, or takes care of her “baby.” Continue reading “Elia August 2017”
Sunflowers at Burnside Farms
The last time we were at Burnside Farms was in 2015 for on our friend Emma’s recommendation for tulips in the spring. We went yesterday for Sunflowers in the summer and realized that Elia here is the same age as Curie then. Here are some similar pictures for comparison.
Girls doing the quick turn, picking flowers and running to the jumping thing. If you decide to go, don’t put in GPS for the Burnside Farms Flower Fields as you will get lost and frustrated like we did) it is a different field than their tulip fields. Go to their website and get the right one somewhere in Haymarket.
Spoils of our trip.
