Learned Optimism

February 7, 2025

I ask you: “What if I am too tired to write?”
If I were to give up would anybody care?
What if I am too tired to fight the good fight?
When we cry out does anyone hear our prayer?

They say despair is committing the greatest sin;
The opposite of love is no longer caring,
Being bereft of all hope or optimism,
Shouldering the world and all of the cross-bearing.

But giving up is simply unconscionable;
We just need to dig in and find our resolve.
Apathy is completely irresponsible,
Declaring and committing makes the weight dissolve.

Being tired is often just a state of mind;
And darkness, something to be banished by the light.
What should we say to the negatively inclined?
“We are never too tired to fight the good fight.”
